Fishing Charter + Guide Sturgeon Lake

About Sturgeon Lake

Sturgeon Lake is located in the Kawartha Lakes region of south-central Ontario. It is one of the larger lakes with three towns located at the end of each of it’s three large arms - Lindsay located at the south end, Fenelon Falls at the north-west end, and Bobcaygeon at the east end. It is located on the Trent-Severn Waterway just downstream from Cameron Lake. The Trent-Severen flows into Sturgeon Lake from the Locks at Fenelon Falls, and exits into Pigeon Lake to the east through the locks in Bobcaygeon. The Scugog and Emily rivers also flow into Sturgeon Lake along its southern shores. Sturgeon Lake is a relatively shallow lake with a maximum depth of 35 feet. Sturgeon Lake supports a great fishery for Bass, Pickerel, and Muskie. Follow along with our fishing guide of Sturgeon Lake where we’ll take you through where and how to find and catch these popular species of fish.

Where and How to Catch Different Species of Fish on Sturgeon Lake

For a good day trip, launch at Rivera Park in Lindsay and take the scenic Scugog River north to the mouth of the lake. Along the way you will find lots of bass holes just begging for some topwater action. If you’re looking for muskie, Sturgeon Lake has an abundance of good-sized muskie that can be found along weed lines. Crank baits are a good choice of lure when it comes to catching this elusive fish but it is always a good idea to bring a good assortment of lures, especially top water lures for bass or muskie. The classic top water lures seem to produce very well, such as Hula Popper, Knocker Spook, and a top water frog of any sort are always a great choice. Weedless hooks are also your best friend. When searching for pickerel, fishing in deeper waters is the best way to go. Pickerel tend to suspend in deeper, open waters at a depth of their preferred temperature range, generally between 15-25ft. When fishing for pickerel, hair jigs work great but any vertical jigs worked just off the bottom will do the trick. A slow troll behind your boat can also lead to some amazing results when looking to catch any of these species of fish.
